With the passage of a strong cold front, the weather pattern will stay somewhat unsettled through the weekend. Snow showers at all elevations will decrease as the low pressure center moves into southern California, leaving behind a chilly Friday where it will be tough to get out of the 30s for the high. Isolated showers of snow and/or rain will continue through Saturday, before another strong and cold winter storm moves through the region Sunday, bringing rain that will turn to snow late Sunday, and could make for a tough Monday morning commute.
Please don’t let the cold weather discourage you from getting in your car and coming out to our 22nd annual Share Your Christmas Drive-By Food Drive. I’ll be out at the Grand Sierra Resort from 6 am-6 pm along with the rest of the Channel 2 Team taking your non-perishable food donations. All proceeds will go to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. And for those in Carson City, drop off at the Governor’s Mansion (benefitting FISH) and in Minden at the Carson Valley Inn (benefitting the Carson Valley Community Food Closet.) I hope to see you all there!
Hello Mike! I read that some cloud seeding is going on in our area to help combat the drought, and that there can be about 10% of added precipitation because of this. My question is- does cloud seeding affect where and what type of precipitation falls? Thanks!

Hi Beth… I just saw this comment, so I apologize if it’s been a long time since I’ve responded. The effects of cloud seeding are generally fairly localized… The cloud seeding generators are up on the crest of the Sierra and may have a positive effect in the local water basins downwind. It’s difficult to say how much they can add to any single storms output, but I have seen figures of up to 10%, although that is hard to quantify. And it really doesn’t change the type of precipitation that you will get in any great measure.
