After a couple of 80-plus temperature days, it looks like some significant cooling is coming our way. A low pressure center will slowly move onshore, and the resulting cold front will first kick up some gusty winds Friday afternoon with mostly sunny skies. High temperatures will drop 10 or more degrees to near 70 in Reno. The front then passes through the region Saturday, bringing some clouds and a slight chance of rain showers to the valleys, but shadowing will keep most of the precipitation up in the mountains. Snow levels will probably be at or above Lake Tahoe, and while some minor snow accumulations could occur on the passes, travel impacts will likely be moderate at worst.

Unsettled weather will continue with a slight chance of valley rain showers and snow showers above 6,500’ through Monday. Temperatures will also remain on the cold side of average (low 60s in Reno) through Tuesday. As we head further into next week, the ridge of high pressure rebuilds back in, and we should see sunshine and 70s by Wednesday.
